Terry Kappel Speaks up for Women’s Health and Schedules Campaign Events

When the McHenry County Board met this morning in Woodstock, Terry Kappel was there to speak up for women’s health care.  Kappel is an announced candidate in next year’s election for the County Board from District 6 as a Democrat.

During public comments Kappel pled with the Board for restoration of $40,000 of funds to the County Department of Health’s Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program.

The money was taken out of the County's share of the annual budget the Budget for the program, which Kappel called a “seemingly arbitrary cut in that it was 25% of last year's budget.”  He noted the words of a member of the Finance and Audit Committee who said in committee hearings that fat needed to be cut out of the budget.
“This is not fat.  This is a program which is provided a needed service,” Kappel said, “Women who find a lump, or have another abnormality cannot wait three months to get health care."

The Board later voted 17-5 to restore the funds.  At least one Disctrict 6 Board member, Ersel Schuster, voted against re-instatement.

Kappel plans to highlight health care issues in his run for the Board.
